Doug and I signed up to run in the Thanksgiving Point Half-Marathon on April 30th. We had a late spring snow the morning of our race. I was so bummed when I woke and saw a couple inches of snow on the ground. Everyone waiting at the starting line was all bundled up in their winter attire. We were all jumping around trying to get our muscles warmed up and ready to go. After about a 15 minute delay the race started and we were off. It was still snowing during the first mile or so but after that the sky cleared up and it ended up being really nice running weather. I felt pretty good through the race until about mile seven, and then the hills started. There were a couple of big hills on the course but there were TONS of rolling hills through the whole course. Normally they wouldn't be that bad, but after about 10 miles of running they seemed so much bigger than they were. I walked more than I had anticipated, but I also was expecting a flat course :) I did get a little emotional once I saw the 12 mile sign. I don't know why but I teared up and was so excited to almost be done - little did I know that last mile would feel like the longest mile of my life. Doug had finished before me and was waiting for me to cross the finish line. He came and gave me encouraging words and held my hand the last few yards. I have never been a fast runner but I am glad I ran the race, it was something I wanted to cross off my bucket list. Doug's official time was 2:08:38 and I was a slow 2:32:15.
