Mele Kalikimaka

Our city had a gingerbread house contest this year.  I though it would fun to enter and the kids were super excited about it.  I have never made a gingerbread house from scratch before so I made a practice batch of dough and let the kids decorate some gingerbread men.  I didn't want my house to blend in with the rest of the houses so I thought to make it stand out I would do a Hawaiian house.  I had a lot of fun doing it and everything is edible except for the sign.  I even boiled lasagna noodles in green water for the leaves on the palm trees.  My kids thought I was the world's coolest mom for about a week :)

Would you believe that I won the competition....well, that is what happens when you are the only entry!  I felt like a big nerd but, oh well.  I did win $40.00 in gift cards and some other prizes.

That is such a good looking gingerbread house! You would have won even if there were hundreds of entries.
